20 Minute Thai Basil Beef (Print)

Ground beef wrapped with Thai basil, ginger, chili sauce, cucumbers, and roasted peanuts in warm tortillas.

# What You'll Need:

01 - 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (or chicken or pork)
02 - Black pepper
03 - 4 cloves garlic, chopped
04 - 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger (or 1/4 cup candied ginger)
05 - 1-3 teaspoons Chinese 5 spice
06 - 1/3 cup tamari or soy sauce
07 - 1/4 cup Thai chili sauce
08 - 1/4 cup chopped green onions
09 - 4 Persian cucumbers, chopped
10 - 2 cups cilantro, chopped
11 - 1/2 cup Thai basil, chopped
12 - 1/3 cup chopped roasted peanuts
13 - 8-10 flour tortillas, warmed
14 - Chili paste, for serving
15 - Toasted sesame oil, for serving

# How to Make It:

01 - In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with black pepper over medium heat, breaking up the meat as it cooks until browned, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, grated ginger, and Chinese 5 spice, cooking for another minute. Add the tamari and Thai chili sauce. Allow the mixture to simmer until the sauce coats the beef, 3-5 minutes. Stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped green onions and remove from heat.
02 - Place one tortilla at a time in the microwave for 15 seconds to soften. Spoon the beef mixture down the center, and top with cucumber, cilantro, Thai basil, green onion, and peanuts. Fold the tortilla over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
03 - Serve the rolls warm with additional soy sauce, chili paste, and toasted sesame oil for dipping. For a dinner option, accompany with rice on the side.

# Additional Notes:

01 - To prepare the Thai chili sauce: Mix 1/3 cup honey, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1-2 tablespoons chili sauce, 2 teaspoons lime zest, 2 tablespoons lime juice, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 2 teaspoons tamari or soy sauce, 1 tablespoon grated ginger, and 1 clove grated garlic in a jar. Shake or stir well before use.
